The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index 2025 crowns Copenhagen as the world’s most livable city, dethroning Vienna after three consecutive years at the top.

Copenhagen achieved near-perfect scores—100 in stability, education, and infrastructure—leading the pack across more than 170 global cities. Western Europe and developed Asia–Pacific countries dominate the top tier, with Vienna and Zurich tied for second at 97.1, followed closely by Melbourne (97.0) and Geneva (96.8).

Other top-10 cities include Sydney, Osaka, Auckland, Adelaide, and Vancouver, the only North American entry, ranking 10th.

These rankings gauge urban quality via five pillars: stability, healthcare, culture & environment, education, and infrastructure. Despite high performances globally, stability scores dipped in Western Europe, the Middle East, and Asia due to civil unrest and regional conflicts.
